The Story
"Ani was cold and cruel, but Ieli was warm and kind. Ani was bon
in the Dragon Mountains of the Eastern Kingdom. Ieli was born in the
Hills of Blackleith.
"Ani was content to stay in her beautiful palace on top of
Giant's Peak. But Ieli wanted to let people live all over these lands.
But there were no men. She knew to have sons and daughters to cover
the earth there would have to be men. And to have elves and trolls,
and fairies, and animals, these would have to come from somewhere.
"So Ieli went to Giant's Peak. Ani was there, brushing out her
hair. Ani turned around. 'What are you doing here?' Ani snapped.
"Ieli was nervous. 'Ani, I know you are the most beautiful woman
in the world. I need your help. Surely if anyone could create men it
would be you.'
"Ani laughed and her voice was full of scorn. 'Silly Ieli. Leave,
now!'
"Ieli fled, and went to her home. For many years she toiled until
she finally created a man. She was thrilled. They married, and soon
Ieli became pregnant.. But the man heard of Ani's beauty and left Ieli
to woo the fair Ani. Ani had not helped make man, but she readily
married the man. But Ani wanted jewels and silks and other things. The
man soon tired of Ani's wants. But he stayed there, dazzled by Ani's
beauty. And so man learned agony, but joy, for Ieli's children were
good and kind. Ani's children were wicked. The two mixed, and now
these lands are a mixture of good and bad..
"And that was the beginning."
"Long ago, when these lands were just beginning there were two
humans. There was Ani, the most beautiful woman in the world, and
Ieli, the ugliest woman.
