"Who's laughing?" you say in your biggest voice.
A girl's voice answers, "I did."
"Barbara, is that you?" you ask.
All you hear are giggles and then a light flashes in your face. Once
your eyes adjust to the light, you see Barbara holding a flashlight
and there's a hairy glove, like a gorilla's hand, on her left arm.
"Boy," Barbara laughs, "you sure can run fast when
you're scared!
"That wasn't funny," you reply. "You scared me half to
death! Where's Dave?"
"I don't know," Barbara says. "I thought he was with
you. I was sitting on my chair, and I saw you jump up. Next thing I
knew, I was sliding down a dark hole and landed here. I found the
flashlight and glove and was getting ready to leave when you came
sliding down."
"I think we should look for Dave and get out of here," you
say in a shaky voice.
"Where's your sense of adventure? You do what you want. I'm
going exploring." With that, Barbara and the flashlight begin to
leave the room.
"Well, at least by running I have a chance. At least I won't get
eaten!" you say to yourself. You begin running faster than
you've ever run before - even faster than during the 50 yard dash
during skills day! You get about 75 yards away and hear a new noise.
You slow down and realize that someone is laughing.
