They began to fall! Wide eyed, Max just looked at his grandpa who was
now whistling a tune, completely at ease. "We'll be down in a
minute, Maxxy." his grandpa said with a wink.
They took a nose dive right into a cloud. "There we go. A nice
soft landing. Now all we have to do is wait for my house to come
along." explained grandpa.
As they sat there, Max was amazed to see that the 'cloud' that they
had landed on was actually one of the islands. The islands were
moving around the lake! As their island moved, they passed by other
islands, and there were people on the islands! On one, he saw an old
woman hanging out laundry to dry. On another, he saw some children
playing tag in front of a big blue house. He saw many things that
would almost be commonplace if he didn't know that they were all of
the way up in the clouds.
"There it is. Get ready to jump, Maxxy." said grandpa.
There was an island floating quite a distance from them that was
giving no signs of coming any closer. "Jump? That's much too
far away." said Max.
"Nonsense." said grandpa, "Gravity isn't as strong way
up here." They got out of the pick-up, grandpa with Max's
luggage, and Max with a look of unbelief on his face.
"OK, take my hand, Maxxy. One.... two.... THREE!"
All of a sudden, the truck began to cough and sputter. "Oh this
darn thing! They use up the gas a lot quicker up here ya know."
said grandpa.
