come to think of it, the bad things had been happening before that as
well, but perhaps you simply didn't notice it so much because your
parents were in control of the matter. but now they weren't in
control. they were gone. and you were now the Lady of Marina Tower, in
charge of the entire family clan, numbering hundreds that lived around
the lone tower that marked their home. You were the heir after all.
you had known for years that this would happen, but you just didn't
think it would happen so soon. You're only 16 for goodness sake!
A shudder of fear runs down your spine. it had been three months now
that you were deemed leader and thing most certainly hadn't gotten
better. the goblin raids happened twice a week, despite the constant
guarding of the property. fire had claimed five of the families homes
in this past month. crops that you had worked so hard to keep good
were dying terribly. the earthquakes were tearing everything apart.
you count the days in your head. five months. five months since the
first earthquake. everything went downhill from there. it was like a
curse was covering the family. something that wanted to destroy
everyone.
you quikcly dress, slacks and button up shirts being your favorite
attire. they were accepted by the family, even, with everything that
is going on. the plush room that you live in, looks less and less
grand as days go by. everything is faded and torn from the
earthquakes. you can't get rid of the dust no matter how hard you try.
ignoring it, you leave the room. the rest of the wing looks just as
worn as your room, until you get to the stairs abruptly everything
changes. the house was nothing but charred skeletal remains. the only
section left standing is the one you live it. the men in the family
built it up to make sure it will stay warm, dry, and standing. with a
sigh you step over all the charred remains and find yourself outside.
to your surprise you find the family out and about in a frenzy. your
trusted friend Noel rushes forward to greet you.
"goblins again, m'lady." he says aloud. then he leans
forward and whispers. "there is a bad mood afoot. the family is
weary of the suffering. they are blaming you. do not be surprised if
they all revolt." in desperation you cry "but what can I do!
I have no control over these circumstances. I have tried
everything!"
"I know my lady, but they won't accept that. I am beginning
to think there is an outside hand in this. someone is out there doing
this on purpose." You rub your head tiredly and nod. He
continued. "there is nothing you can do here." you think a
moment.
"isn't there somewhere I can get help." you ask.
"I don't think so." suddenly a bright and horrible idea
comes to you. "what about Wessen!"
noel goes pale. "what is going through your mind! what makes you
think that horrible dragon will help you! everyone knows that few live
to see him. "yes" you reply "but everyone knows he is
wise and powerful. perhaps i will be one of the few that see
him." noel still didn't look like he believed it.
You wake up one morning, stiff and aching all the way down your back,
but your used to it, really. the bed you are lying on is large but
hard from the rough wooden slats that were put in to hold it up.
sighing you get out of bed with a small private groan. You just know
today will be as bad as yesterday. and the day before. and the day
before that, all the way back to the day you lost your parents in the
accident...
