At one point in your journey, you pass by a hotel building.Looking up
at one of the windows, you notice a small group of men with flashlights
rummaging through file cabinets and desks as if they're looking for
something important.Their secretive manner and constant nervous
glances suggest that they're not supposed to be in that room.
As you try to make up your mind whether you should call the police, you
notice a sign over the front door that looks like the hotel's
name.Moving in for a closer look, you notice that the sign
reads:"The Watergate Hotel."And that's when it hits you why
the date June 17th,1972 seems so familiar--that was the day of the
infamous Watergate break-in!So the men you just saw must be Howard
Hunt and his team of burglars, sent by President Nixon to get hold of
information Nixon can use against the Democrats in the next
Presidential election....
Without even thinking about it,you race to the nearest payphone and
start dialing the number for the hotel security desk.As soon as the
guard on duty answers your call, you give him a quick account of what
you saw in the window.
You look up to see that you're standing outdoors late at night. At
first you're not sure where you are,but after catching a glimpse of
the Lincoln Memorial over your shoulder you realize you're in
Washington,D.C.Since you've never been here before, you decide to
explore the rest of the city.Picking up a stray copy of a newspaper
from a park bench, you see the date "June 17,1972" at the top
of the front page;that date seems very familiar for some
reason, although you can't quite remember what that reason is....
