Behind the metal door is a vast dark room, but the more you look into
the darkness, you start to realize a low glow comes from some of the
tiles on the floor. The color is a blue-green and only shows up here
and there.
Barbara and Dave stand in the doorway behind you. The woman's cries
are still there, but more quiet, almost fading away the longer you
stand there. When you shove your hand into the room, you see the faint
outline where the light passes around the edges of your hands. Each of
you does it and look at each other.
Barbara pushes into you and you're the first to stand in the room.
Instead of the same outline of light, everything is visible, except
it's all different. You're standing in a narrow passage, the blue
tiles beneath your feet are slick and the color of the eastern sky
just before the sun sets. The walls are white and tall and open to the
sky. You can see a few clouds and occasionally, a bird zooms across
your field of view. You look back at your friends and they ask what
it's like.
"Do you see it?"
"No," Barbara says. "Wait, see what? It's the same,
except we can barely see you."
Dave agrees. You see the door he's holding open is no longer metal,
but old wood.
"Hey Dave, what's the door look like?"
He glances at the door and puts his hand on it. "Um, it's like a
penny. Some kind of metal."
"Come in here," you tell them. Barbara follows your request,
but Dave still stands next to the door.
Behind each door, the sound of the crying woman is the same, no
closer, no further away. Dave walks down the line of doors, knocking
at each one. Barbara listens to different doors, choosing them at
random. You walk straight to number 27, a copper colored door with a
plain knob on it.
