A sudden cry causes you to turn your head in a panicked motion. Due to
the enormity of the entry hall, the cry reverberates off the many
elegantly tiled walls and ceiling, fracturing itself, making it
impossible to determine where the sound originated from. You hold your
breath, listening for any clue as to what happened. A quick stacatto
of footfalls strides determinedly from the east side of the hall, and
then quiets as a heavy door slams behind the person on the west side.
Silence, heavy as the ornate rugs hanging on the walls, sticks to the
thick air. Nothing moves. Quietly you exhale, slowly turning your
attention back to the passage way you had started to
explore.
