"I'm not sure. I just came in here to get away from them."
you reply.
"Get away from who?" he inquires.
"Kids from school."
"Ah, it must be because you tell yourself stories and make up
names that don't exist. Am I right?"
Your mouth is hanging open becase that's exactly why the other kids
make fun of you.
"I knew someone who was just like that;maybe he still is."
"What's his name?" you ask.
Mr. Coriander replies, "HIs name is Bastian Balthazar Bux. Do you
know him?"
You didn't hear what he said because you have your attention focused
on this one book. You pick it up carefully to examine it. Mr.
Coriander smiles. You notice that, on the cover you could make out two
snakes, one light and one dark; they were biting each other's tail
which formed an oval. You flip through the pages and find that it is
printed in two colors and there are large, ornate letters at the
beginning of each chapter. You look around and find that Mr. Coriander
is in another room. You take the opportunity; you quickly put the book
under your coat and run out the door.
You run across the street to Mr. Coriander's book shop. The bells
jingle loudly as you open the door. "Good afternoon. May I help
you?" Mr. Coriander asks.
