The room is so dark you stumble over the first thing you encounter. Feeling around you realize it's probably just an old piece of furniture. Dave whines again behind you. You wish you could trade him in for a flashlight. Then you'd have to search for two friends instead of one. "Barbara..." Your foot bumps into something on the floor. For some reason your mind seems to tell you to bend down and pick it up. Even as your hand closes over the metal object in the darkness...you think you have a good idea as to what it is....You step back out into the dim light of the hallway and hold the object up.
A hand gun!!!!
Dave utters a surprised sound deep in his throat. You gaze in awe at what you just found. It's old and dusty, but the gun almost makes you feel a sense of security.
"Are there any bullets?" Dave asks.
If your grandfather hadn't taken you on a few of his hunting expeditions, you'd be clueless about guns. ...and even then those were rifles. The handgun looks simpler though. You manage to examine the dusty old piece and open it to reveal a single bullet. You don't know if there is already one in the chamber or not though.
"Will that thing even work?" Dave asks.
"I don't know, but I feel a whole lot safer now that I have it," you reply.
"You would shoot someone?" Dave questions.
You think about it. Normally you would never even consider such an idea....but this castle is giving you the creeps ...and Barbara's scream was haunting.
"I don't like the look on your face," Dave says. "I think I'm going to go for help. You stay and keep looking for Barbara..."
Dave turns and stumbles his way back down the hallway.
Maybe its a good thing that Dave left you to search alone. You definitely feel relief.
Should you look around the dark room some more and see what else you can find or should you get back to the task of finding Barbara before it's too late?
