A little later, Mr. Anderson reappears, and you and your friends rush
up to him, speaking all at once,
"What happened?"
"Were you kidnapped?"
"Were you fired?"
"Are you all right?"
"Girls, girls, whoa! Slow down! I'm fine...I'm fine, and I wasn't
kidnapped. But I did have to convince Matilda that I didn't start that
fire...Mrs. Kent thought I did, but when I explained, she remembered
the culprit was a female. Look, girls...we need to really get to work
on this mystery. Meet me outside my classroom tonight, half an hour
after curfew, and we'll get to the bottom of this if it's the last
thing we ever do, by golly by gum!"
"We're in!" you all exclaim.
What risks lie ahead?
You confer briefly with your new friends, who say that if you want to
keep out of trouble--and you all do--maybe you should leave well
enough alone for now. With some misgivings, you agree.
