Take the pen as evidence
"Looks like we need to crack this code if we want to get
anywhere," she says.
The two of you try to crack the code with no success, but just then,
"Richard Flavisham" comes out into the hall, followed by
Rosa. Nurse Johnson flags them down and asks for some help. You go to
a small hidden alcove and all try again to figure out the code.
Suddenly, Mr. Anderson snaps his fingers.
"I've got it!" he says. "It's a three-letters-ahead
code...for "A" she's writing "D"--the letter that
comes three letters after it in the alphabet. So this says...wait a
minute...almost got it...oh, no!"
"What?" you all ask.
"Chelsea," you read over his shoulder, "frame Larken
tonight!"
Frame Larken? How? What should you do?
You decide to risk taking the pen and slip it into your pocket with
the note. You then signal to Nurse Johnson that you have found
something, and she signals to you that so has she. In the hallway
outside Della's room, you show what you have. Nurse Johnson shows you
some other coded notes that she found under the bed.
