Behind the door is a small room. Two girls are already there, but you
don't know who they are. You stay close to the back wall, trying not
to be noticed, and listen closely.
"Did you get it, Esmerelda?"
"Yeah," the girl with the hairpin says, "and that was a
close one. They'll never be able to get any evidence on us now, and
from what Queenie tells me, Anderson's goose is cooked."
"Yeah--that hillbilly Yank," the second girl says.
"Oh, Dorothy, hon-eeee," the third girl drawls in an
exaggerated imitation of Mr. Anderson's accent, "must ya be so
dang hard on a ignore-ant man?" The girls collapse in laughter.
Queenie? you think. Queenie who? When the girls begin talking again,
you strain to catch every word.
"So no one has a clue?" the girl called Dorothy asks.
"Not one. Poor little Victoria Stuart doesn't know I was the
cheater, for one thing."
A-ha! you think. Solid proof that these girls are somehow involved in
the crime...but should you accost them?
You decide to follow the girl to find out who she is and where she
goes. Your journey takes you to a back room in Brown Hall, the
dormitory for the senior girls. The girl with the hairpin rushes into
this hallway just seconds before you do and raps on the wall. A secret
door opens, and the girl dashes through it, with you following.
