"Maria, don't get sentimental on me," Bridget snaps.
"Well, excuse me for having any feelings!" you snap back.
Bridget blushes and puts her arm around your shoulder.
"Oh, Maria, I'm sorry. I didn't mean that, honest I didn't. It's
just that we need to tell her...she's his wife."
When you tell Nurse Johnson what you discovered--or rather did not
discover--at the jail, however, she does not show signs of having a
broken heart. In fact, she sets her jaw, clenches her teeth, and says,
"OK, girls...I'm marching down to that jail right now and telling
those policemen in no uncertain terms that I want to see the warden
about my husband immediately!"
"All riight!" Bridget says, shooting Nurse Johnson a grin.
"You go, girl!" you add spiritedly.
However, in two hours, Nurse Johnson has not returned to school, so
you...
"Are you sure we have to tell her?" you ask Bridget as you
head back to school. "Nurse Johnson, I mean. It would break her
heart."
