"You're awake? How do you feel?" he asks.
"All right,"you manage.
"You have a bruised head and side, and a broken ankle. I'm
suprised you could walk on it--well, actually, I'm not, but I'll get
back to that in a minute. The dog needed stitches, but nothing else.
The filly was the first awake, and she's on her feet out back.
Beautiful creature! Looks as fast as the wind too. I'll tell you
more about-- other things after the anaesthesia has worn off and you
can get out of bed," he adds. "Now rest a while
longer."
You feel like you're struggling through deep water, swimming
slowly toward the surface. The feeling fades and the room comes
slowly into focus. You see Tarryn sitting by the end of your bed,
looking intently into your eyes.
