You look over at Kerri who was breathing harder then you. Her face was
splattered with the animal’s blood. You suddenly felt the stickiness
of the blood on your hands and face. You had so much adrenaline
pumping through your system; you didn’t even notice the blood.
“Are you okay?” you ask Kerri as she too slides to the ground next to
you.
“I’ll live,” she utters with a smile. “What was that thing?”
“I don’t know, and to be totally honest, I don’t think I want to
know.”
The both of us just sat there behind the dark building, breathing
heavily. A small mist began to move in, giving us a sense of serenity.
You loose track of time when you suddenly jumped at the touch of
Kerri.
“Josh, did you hear that?” she asked holding on to my arm and looking
at me with a look of distress in her eyes. At first you don’t hear
anything. Then all of a sudden a shrill of anger erupted through the
night. It sounded like something was dying.
You look a Kerri and ask “do you think it’s the creature that attacked
us?”
The screams of agony carried on. Kerri looked around and didn’t say
anything at first, then looks at you and say “to be honest, I really
don’t want to stay and find out.” She started to get up. “Come on; let
us go find a place we can stay until morning.” She looked all around
us and then gives you her hand to help you up.
We both ran down along side of the road, with the hatchet hanging at
your side, hoping that the shadow of darkness would hide you from
anything and everything.
You both stop running, to catch your breath. You look around and
notice a general store. You look at Kerri who seemed to notice the
same thing. She looks back at you, and nods her head in a silence
response. You quickly jump onto the porch that leads to the grizzled
foundation. From the outside appearance, the building looked as if it
hadn’t been used in years. The wooden planks that were used to first
build the building were falling apart, splintering in every direction.
The windows that were originally there had apparently been shattered.
The remains shards of glass littered the floor. A funny odor crept
eerily through the cold air night. I was reaching for the door, when I
felt a sudden grasp on your shoulder. You look back at Kerri’s
bloodstained face. Her eyes were as big as melons and her face was
white as death. You follow her gaze and you…
You lead Kerri away from the dirt road that ran through the town. You
made a quick right into an alley and hid behind a building You lend up
against the wall of a building and slowly slide down until you’re
resting on the cold ground. Your hand is trembling around the handle
of the hatchet. You’ve had never used an axe in such a form. It gave
you a new feeling you never experienced before. You felt stronger then
ever.
