Decide to use it to your advantage
Well, public apologies seem so fake and you WERE just being yourself,
so you decide to go with this new personality of yours. What is it
that they say about bad publicity is better than none? You become
notorious for sticking to your guns and telling people exactly what
you think. Although, you thought, this may hurt your career, it seems
to have actually helped it. Maybe that's what the people want!
