Try to catch it instead
You take a slow step towards the little dancing blue light and very
carefully raise your arm towards it...at the last minute you snatch at
it...it flies out between you fingers, hovering above your head.
A twig snaps behind you and you wheel around prepared for attack, at
first you don't see anything but then a shape steps out from behind a
bush...you glance down to see a enormous rabbit. You're about to smile
at it in relief when it sits up on its haunches and looks you in the
eye. At first you had thought of this creature as appealing, but now
you realize there is nothing cuddly or innocent in its hard gaze. It
grins maliously and you see that it's two front teeth are as sharp as
any wolf's.
"Had you ventured into these parts without the "Feu
Follet" I would have slain you and eaten your heart."
You go cold. "I have done you no harm!" you protest.
"Ay." it says, shaking its floppy ears, "but you mean
harm to the 'Feu Follet".
"The 'Feu what?" you ask.
" The 'Feu Follet', the creature of light above your head...do
you not know of it?"
it asks in disbelief.
"Uh, no...is it dangerous?"
"Pah!" The rabbit spits "As dangerous as a rose, the
'Feu Follet' is a harmless creature, they feed off positive emotions,
unlike their relatives the 'will-o-the-wisps', who feed off all the
negative, they prey on the innocent to feast upon their terror, no,
the 'Feu Follet' shall not harm you.Leave it be."
You stare at the blinking light, now a pale orange in colour, in awe.
"Ha, the 'Feu Follet' seems to have taken liking upon your
pitiful being, that will be helpful to you, don't try to catch it
again or it will abandon you. And you don't want to be alone in these
parts." The rabbit advises.
"Ok, so who are you?" you ask
"My name is Longears."
You smile at the funny looking rabbit and then jump as something
slithers over your foot, you jerk away with a cry, the snake, equally
as startled, vanishes into the trees.
Longears fixes upon you a gaze of utter contempt."Your afraid of
snakes? Ha! Then you won't last long here at all, theres things alot
worse than snakes in the shadows."
Shame mixed with anger washes through you."Snakes are
dangerous" you shoot back. "Surely even you are afraid of
foxes and wolves Longears!"
Longears draws his split upper lip back from his razor sharp teeth in
a grin. "On the contrary human, I eat foxes and wolves, not the
other way round. Anyway, its wise to not dally in one place too long,
follow me..."
Staring at the strange orbs blinking colors you wonder if it would be
possible to catch it...imagine showing your friends this!...then again
you might never get out of this strange land...
