Follow Socrass
Suddenly, on the top of a rather steep hill,with a wide river running
below, Socrass skids to a stop, holding up a hand to warn you...you
look where he points and see a movement at the bottom of the hill.
Socrass pulls you behind a bush.
"Tell me what you see" Socrass asks
You squint. "I see a figure, can't make out male or female."
"Pah! What poor eyesite you have" Socrass scoffs. "I
see a man, not elven, too tall. Caped. Pale. He's watching us."
The moon clears a cloud and for brief instant, floods the ground with
milky light.The watching man steps out of the light quickly, casually,
but not before you notice Socrass go tense.
" Do you think he's lost or something? Maybe he needs
directions?" You suggest.
" You need to learn to trust nobody. Nothing in the mists is what
it seems. That man is dangerous."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes." Socrass motions you forward slightly. "Look
closely. Something is not as it should be."
You look hard, trying to make out what Socrass is indicating.
"Do you see?"
"No, I can't see well in this pale light."
Socrass frowns. "That man casts no shadow."
The tone of Socrasses voice makes you go cold inside.
"Only one being fails to cast shadow in full moonlight. And this
being is one I've never tangled with before and I pray I will never
have to...that is a Vampire."
You look at Socrass hpoing he has a plan. His face is set in fear.
"Well." he says after a long moment. "At least the
cursed creature cannot cross water. I know another way to the Kingdom.
Its much longer and more hard going, but if you would rather mess with
this creature......"
" Oh hell no." you answer quickly.
"Well lets be on our way then..."
Socrass turns and heads down the hill...
Socrass walks at a steady pace in front of you, you have trouble
keeping up. You start to protest at one point when he uses his dagger
to pry off the back panel on your watch and inspect the inside, but
decide to keep quiet..Socrass did save your life. The sky darkens as
night falls...
