A piece of paper fluttered out, followed by a scattering of ten grey,
ordinary pebbles.
"Oh, how very useful," you said sarcastically. "Those
are going to help me a LOT in my current situation."
Nevertheless, you picked the paper up and read the Chinese characters
on it.
"In times of trouble, please remember me and do not feel
despaired. Put to good use, I will reward you. Use me well, -"
And beside it, starting faint but grower darker the more you stared at
it, were the words:
" - Time traveller."
"'Use me well, Time traveller,'" you repeated, memerized.
"It knows that I'm a Time traveller! But how?"
You hesitated, then retrieved the ten pebbles from the ground and
popped them into the silk bag again. Who knows - maybe they have
magical properties!
Suddenly, you heard a voice.
"Look, it wasn't my fault!" a male said angrily. "You
told me to guard it carefully, and I did!"
"Well, where's it got to then!" an older male thundered.
"But without the Ten Pearls of - "
"Shhh! Keep your voice down!"
Suddenly, you felt a thrill of excitement. Could it be that the ten
pebbles in your bag were the Pearls - only in
disguise?
It was a silk bag, the sort you would see holding jewellery or maybe
small trinkets inside. The silk was gold, and embroidered in all sorts
of pretty colours. Curious, you pulled it open and tipped it upside
down.
