The people had a double take, which was followed by amazed murmurs and
several flabbergasted gasps.
"Take her to the palace," King Rheodyn ordered, snapping his
fingers. Two figures in bronze armour instantly formed in the air in a
swirl of white mist, and took you firmly by the forearms.
"Sire!" you exclaimed. "I'm - I'm - "
The scene vanished from sight as you were propelled into a spinning
tunnel of light, only to emerge from the other end unscathed.
You blinked. In the space of about three seconds, you had gone from
being in the middle of a humble street to being outside the great
Atlantean palace in the heart of Atlantis itself. It was humungous,
made of many pillars of marble, towering over the other buildings that
were on the other side of the moats that surrounded that palace. The
courtyard you were standing in was breathtaking - a myriad of tiles
that wove around each other in a circular pattern. Around you were
perfect stone replicas of the Atlantean Gods - Poseidon, and others
which you could not name, all larger-than-life size and painfully
detailed.
You glanced at the guards on either side of you.
"Excuse me!" you said, outraged. "I am a proper
Atlantean citizen, as any fool can see - "
One of the guards turned his head toward you, and you realized with a
fright that in his eyes, instead of having a proper iris and pupil, it
was all just a dull grey.
'Grey like the stone statues', you thought, processing this
information quickly. Glancing at the one on the other side of you, you
were shocked to see that they were identical. Both bronzed, muscled
and handsome, but without any trace of life in the face.
'They're not real!' you thought to yourself in amazement as they
steered you around the entire palace and into a smaller building at
the end. You struggled blindly as they basically carried you in.
"Excuse me!" you yelled. "Do you
mind?"
"But she is not of our land," he finished. You stared at
him. How could he have known? Oh, it was just your luck - to be
discovered on the first day of your journey!
