You see a well in the center of the town square in the center of the
town. You decide to go over to it and get a drink of water after
seeing that it is a communal thing.
After getting a drink of water, you turn around to see five or six
guards staring at you. After a few minutes of staring at each other,
one of them walks up to you. He doesn't seem too happy to see you
there. He says something to you that you that you don't understand
that quickly turns into a shout. Then he raises his sword to your
throat.
A young man comes running out of the doorway of a local bar, where he
has been watching. He says something to the guard which, again, you
don't understand. Then he turns around and pulls you after him. He
leads you to a tower-like building where you suppose he lives.
After leading you up a big flight of stairs, past many doors, into a
room marked: 32-DHJ-9527. He points to a chair. You sit. As he turns
to pour a cup of, what you guess is, tea. You mutter a thank you for
saving your silly behind back there. He turns suddenly and stares at
you like you just shot at him.
"I didn't know that you could English," he says after
getting over the shock.
"Yes, I can. Now, what did I do wrong to make him mad. And what
did you tell him?"
"Well, first of all, you didn't understand him. That always makes
him mad. Second, you didn't have a pass. Thats a device that we use to
tell citizen from enemy. I told him was that you were an old friend of
mine who came to visit. You'll be issued a pass if you stay longer
than a three days. And third, welcome to Tyle Sands. My name is Amett.
You can stay here until you find a place of your own. I must warn you:
if you leave the city to continue on your way, don't get too close to
the waterfall. They say that who ever can go into the mist and come
back alive is supposed to be our true leader. I don't believe that, of
course, but I'm not volunteering to try it. What do you think?"
he says, watching you in an uncertain way. "Now try to get some
rest. We can talk in the morning."
You lay down on a pallet in the floor. You still don't know who you
are, or where you come from, or even where your going.
That night you dream of the mist at the bottom of the
waterfall...
You decide to head for the city. It's huge. It really does look like a
16th century town. It has winding streets that makes it quiet easy to
get lost.
