"What is your name," he asks after a long moment of silence.
You tell him, suddenly realizing that the two of you have never been
properly introduced. The Knight nods politly. "It is an honer
to meet you," comes his reply, "I am Sir Halfang, the Grey
Knight of King Daruis III. How did you come to be here, if I may
ask?"
"I-I'm not entirely sure myself." You glance questioningly
down at the pendant hanginng about your neck, and, realizing that
you've been fingering it all the while, jerk your hand away from it.
"This must have brought me," you guess. Halfang nods, but
says nothing.
The ride to Dirkensby is short than you expected. Halfang's unease
seems to grow with every moment as you near the villiage. "I
must warn you," he says at last, "These are not friendly
folk. You mustn't expect a warm welcome here, for you sahll be givin
none. Try not to offend them - I can only fight so many at a
time."
Surprised by his words, you glace back at him - yes, he is serious.
"Of course I woulnd't offend them," you say rather
indignently. Halfang sighs deeply before responding. "I'm sure
you won't try, but it doesn't take much to get these folk riled up.
And they're all warriors. Even the womenfolk know a thing or two
about fighting in these parts."
You enter the town, and Halfang tethers his horse securely outside of
what seems to be an inn and tavern. The two of you enter together
quietly, trying to not draw too much attention to yourselves. Non the
less, not a moment has passed before a man approaches you - tall,
dark, lean, and not altogether friendly looking, he stands with his
arms crossed challengingly over his broad chest.
"Who are you?" His voice is deep, and it rumbles richly from
within his chest. Halfang stepps forward. "I am Sir Halfang,
Grey Knight of our King Darious III," he replies, "And this
is my companion, who wishes to challenge the Dragon," he adds,
pulling you gently by your sleeve to stand beside him.
The tall man eyes you severely, and you feel ready to melt under his
gaze. "You - fight the Dragon?" he asks
skeptically.
"Dirkensby seems best to me. I have decided that I shall fight
the dragon - that is, try..." you murmer at last. The Knight
nods grimly, as though slightly displeased by your choice. Still, he
urges his horse on down the path to Dirkinsby.
