The fattest milkman ever! You stumble back astounded at the size of
him. He walks over towards you and asks,
“ Are you okay? It looks like you’ve just seen a ghost!”
You answer back to him, “ I'm okay, I'm lost. Where am I? Can you help
me?”
The milkman answers back, “Well, what is it boy?”
You say, “Well I'm a bit lost because I hit my head and I must have
been knocked out and I can't remember anything - where I've been, what
I've done, who I am or even what year it is.”
“ Sounds like you hit your head and that did something to your memory
boy,” said the milkman.
“ I would like to help you because you’re the first person I've met
that doesn't react to my size. My presence seems to overwhelm everyone
and most people are frightened of me. When I walk through doorways I
get the strangest looks and often become jammed between the doorframe.
It makes me so miserable, I’m harmless really.”
The milkman continued, “ The year is 1997 and today is the 19th of
February. It is a Tuesday. We are in New York City, Manhattan Island
to be precise. We’ve just experienced another one of those terrorist
attacks from the Middle East. How are you feeling my boy?”
“ Not certain Sir. I’m not sure I’m following you. You said it was
1997? ”
“ That’s right and a new day has just dawned” said the milkman.
“ I feel very strange. My head is sore and the last I remember it was
1934. Something isn’t right. What’s your name sir?”
“ They call me Big Bob, boy”, said the milkman. He continued to say “
Well, 1934, that’s a bit strange. Seems like you’ve experienced a
journey through a time warp. You only see those things in the movies
and on TV, like Back to the Future with Michael J Fox”
“ Who?” said the young boy.
“ Don’t fuss yourself with details. What’s your name sonny?” said Big
Bob.
“ Jonathan Smith sir.”
“ Well Johnny, perhaps I should get you to a doctor. Are you alright
to get up and walk over to my van?”
“ I think so”, said Jonathan as he rose to his feet. Big Bob gave him
some support as they walked down the alleyway and across the street.
Jonathan was aghast. He had never seen motor vehicles that looked
quite like this. The surrounding buildings intimidated him. It all
seemed so new age even though Jonathan didn’t know what new age was.
Back in his home town of Pashcavale, Ohio , thoughts of the space age
hadn’t even emerged. He really wondered where he was, what he was
doing and how he got there. Big Bob seemed genuine enough and at this
point of time was his only hope.
Big Bob opened Jonathan’s passenger door, Johnny got in to the van.
Big Bob continued around to the driver’s side. He placed the key in
the ignition and started the engine.
