A rather large dragon is looking over your shoulder. All thoughts of your own personal appearance leave your mind. You open your mouth to scream. "Please don't scream," the dragon says anxiously, "It gives me a head-ache." Dumbfoundedly, you stare back at it, almost absently noticing that its scales are a beautiful, shimmery array of blues and greens. It has large, sad-looking crystal eyes. "I..I don't understand," you stammer, "I thought dragons ate people." The dragon looks at you even more sadly than before. "But you're not a person, Dana. Don't you remember anything?" You are even more confused than before and turn back to gaze into the shallow pool. The face of a perfectly normal-looking, albeit dissheveled, human female in her early twenties gazes back. The pool rippled making it hard for you to pick out any details. "I look human." you say, not afraid of the dragon anymore. The dragon turns its head away. Something tugs at your mind at the gesture, but before you can pin down the memory, it has disappeared. "Who am I" you question. The dragon does not answer. Its head is raised with nostrils extended as if it smelled something. "I must go quickly. The rules are clear, and I must not interfere with your fate," he says cryptically. Then he raises his wings. "Wait!" you cry in desperation, "What fate?" But the dragon has already left in a thunder of wings. A blast of air from its flight knocks you down to your knees. Soon it is a black dot in the sky.
You are left alone in the alley. Cold, frightened, and with no idea in the world who you are or what you are doing, you begin to cry. This is doing no good, you think. Impatiently brushing away the tears, you manage to stand and look around you once again. Maybe someone in one of those two buildings can help you. You wonder which building to try out.
