Read a Totally Different Story

Bella tossed in her sleep. Please come Bella, you too Matthew. I need your help. At 12 O’clock go to the stair cupboard and go inside, then go down the staircase that is inside, you will have to do the rest yourselves. I will explain later. Make sure that you are there a few minutes early; if you are not on time the staircase won’t appear.

Bella and Matthew woke up. ‘What a strange dream’ she thought. She walked into Matthew’s room. He was already awake. “Did you have a dream?” she asked Matthew. “Yeah, it was strange, Mum was in it,” answered Matthew. “I think we had the same dream, let’s do it because if it was just a dream nothing will happen,” said Bella.

At breakfast they looked all around the house and outside, but they could not find her. Of course they couldn’t ask their father because he disappeared three years ago. So they decided to go under the stairs.

First they each packed a backpack. “I hope we have everything,” whispered Matthew. “I am quite sure we do,” assured Bella. “If you want anything for comfort, bring it along. I don’t mind” Bella spoke kindly. She thought that they will probably need to be cheerful to be brave, and save their mum.

At 9:25 Bella and Matthew crept inside the stair cupboard. The waited for a few minutes but nothing happened. Just as they were about to leave they heard a strange sound, then all of a sudden a staircase appeared so they travelled down it, into a strange, strange world.

At the first sight of the world, Bella thought that it was quite perfect until she looked closer. First she looked more closely at the sea; litter filled the whole sea turning it into a brownish colour which from far back looked green.

The other things that were wrong with the sea were there were no animals, seaweed or coral. They must have all died from the litter and pollution also.

The other thing wrong with the world was; there were no plants, only fake ones. Bella wondered how they were breathing but anything could happen, it was another world!

Matthew had been on a few camps before, so he found a good place to set up camp for the night. It was on a small patch of dry mud everywhere else had wet mud.

When they had explored their surroundings they decided that the grass would be safe for the night. They settled down in their sleeping bags and finally fell asleep.

The next morning, Matthew woke up first; he had woken up because under the tent there was something that Matthew was lying on. So, he woke up Bella so that they could get it out of the ground.

First they moved everything out of the tent. Then they moved the tent. The only thing they could find that was good for digging with was two cups. Bella started pouring water on top of the thing to soften it.

She thought she saw a glint from what looked like a key. She kept pouring water, it started to work, and all the mud was becoming soggy and sliding easily into Matthew’s cup. They kept using that method until the thing was pulled out of the mud.

Bella and Matthew washed the thing in some water and all the mud was washed off. It was a key! On it had the four numbers; 7639.

Even though they didn’t know where they were going, Bella and Matthew packed up all their things and buried their rubbish. Then they set off.

Five hours later Bella and Matthew found a stream. They filled all of their water bottles up, because it was the only stream so far that they had found and it was clean.

Bella cupped her hands and dipped them into the stream. Before she took a sip of the water she spoke. “I wonder why this water is clean and no other water is clean,” she said.

As she spoke the water in her hands formed a picture. The picture showed a lock. It was hidden deep under the water. It had the numbers 7639 on it.

“Those are the numbers from the key we found, I wonder if the key goes to that lock?” wondered Matthew. Bella drank the water and thought.

She cupped her hands again to see what the water would do. It did nothing the she asked it where her mum was, it took the form of a cage. Then they asked it where their dad was, once again it took the shape of a cage.

While Bella was testing the water and what it could do Matthew was busy getting ready to dive down and look for the lock.

On his first dive found the key but couldn’t reach it. So he hopped out of the water and grabbed a stick and dived in again. He used the stick to move the lock to a place where he could reach it. That time he got it out.

He got out the key and undid the lock. All of a sudden a blue portal appeared. The children didn’t go through.

They looked around again. All the pollution was gone and all the plants had grown back. Bella and Matthew cleaned up their things and went through the portal.

Bella and Matthew realised that they were still in the same world because all the plants were the same. That was when Bella spotted some cages. Bella and Matthew ran over to the cages.

Then they saw a man talking to their mum and another man. Her mum and the other man were both in cages. So Bella and Matthew hid behind a bush until the man that wasn’t in a cage, left.

Bella and Matthew raced over to their mothers cage which was right next to the other mans cage.

Matthew looked at the lock and saw the numbers; 7639 on both the locks. He got out the key that he and Bella had found and it worked, both the prisoners were free.

“Bella, Matthew I am your father who was taken away three years ago, I hope you believe me because I am telling the truth, I will prove it by saying my name, it is Richard,” Richard their father said. “We believe you dad,” whispered the children.

“Thanks for making this world clean again kids, let’s go home to celebrate, I came here to fix this world but I got caught, let’s hurry home before they catch us,” said Bella and Matthews mother. “We know how to get home really fast mum and dad,” said Matthew and Bella.

Bella got out the lock and keys and undid the lock, the portal once again appeared. The family disappeared through it and arrived home, together once again.
