"The River Lrýa," he says, turning to you.
"How shall we get across?" you manage to pant.
"Walk, of course," comes Edomiya's voice as he begins to
pull you across. The edge of your green dress turns black as you wade
across--wait! Dress? Did you not have pants on before? With surprise,
you look down and realize that you must have gotten the dress from
Edomiya--or maybe it just "appeared" on you when you used
the crystal. Oh well, you think. I like this dress better than those
pants and tunic.
"COME," says Edomiya softly, hurridely. "We MUST get
to the Forest."
He drags you along hastily. You look around you and notice you are in
a green valley. The sky is dark, twinkling with pale stars. How pretty
this place is! you think.
And it IS pretty! That is, it WAS. Until you saw the Forest it was
pretty. The Forest of Midalde: dark, threatening, and sinister.
"Wait--" you beg as Edomiya starts to pull you inside that
dreadful place.
"What?" he turns to you. "Speak quickly, we haven't
much time to lose!"
"We're--we're going in THERE?" you ask, horrified, as you
point a finger at THE PLACE.
"Of course," says Edomiya dismissively. "Come, let's
go--" He makes a move to pull you in again.
"Oh, no!" you cry (softly, of course), "I CAN'T go in
THERE! It's evil, it's threatening, it's SO SINISTER!"
"Darling." Edomiya is impatiently tapping his foot. "Do
you want to be saved or NOT?"
"I don't know if I want to be saved, NOW."
"This is the only way to be saved," says Edomiya, his voice
strained. "Let's go."
"Come, Adona, let's go. We must make haste--the Enyd will be
hunting for you." Edomiya takes your hand and drags you speedily
over rocky ground, until he stops at a little brook.
