"Cool," you remark, "so your colors match your
names?"
"Of course," pipes Emerald, who in fact is bright green.
"Our mothers named us like this," says Amber, who is yellow,
and Sapphire, a blue fairy interrupts, "Because she thought it
would be easy."
"And it is," Cerise, who is purple-red, laughs. "It's
so easy to tell us apart."
Hazel giggles. "You guys, this is Autumn. She'll be staying with
us for a while."
"Hello Autumn!" greet the other tiny fairies, hesistantly
fluttering up to you and circling your head.
"You're an elf!" Sapphire exclaims, pulling back a thread of
your ruddy hair, to reveal perfect, leaf-shaped ears.
You cock your head a little. "Of course I am," you say,
smiling. "And you are fairies, right?"
"Yes," giggles Emerald, flapping her tiny wings with
laughter, which sends bright green glitter flying in all directions.
"I'm the oldest, though," Hazel says proudly, nodding her
yellow-brown head sharply, but with a smile on her yellow-brown face.
"Oh, of course," you tease.
"WHAT?!" Hazel blinks. "I am!"
"I believe you," you chuckle, poking at Hazel's slim
stomach. She backs up laughing, "Stop, it tickles!" and you
poke her once more.
"Cerise! Sapphire! Amber! Emerald!" cries Hazel, leading you
to a tree. From a hollow in the tree pop out four tiny fairies, each a
different color, according to their names.
