On the way home, I took the back alley behind my favorite little
Italian restaraunt and ran into my old friend Sam Hargrove. He asked
me if I'd heard about the theft of the infamous Klockmon Diamond. He
said everyone in town was talking about the mysterious theft, and
there were rumours of a dead body found at the scene of the crime.
I told him I had been assigned to the case, and though I wasn't
supposed to talk about it to anyone, I could tell him that no dead
body was found at the scene, just a smelly cut-up fish.
He responded saying " I bet it was a woman that did this
one."
I asked him why he thought that, becoming at once suspicious.
He said "Because any woman would want a diamond of that
size. My wife would kill for one." "Oh really?" I
responded causually. Yes, I did have a lot to think about when I got
home.
