"Oh, do I have to get up? I want to sleep a little longer."
I say.
"Hurry! You are running late to go to a cortier's house."
she snaps back.
"Why must I go? I be with kids my own age, not old, stuffy women
that just like my mother because she's the queen. I don't want to
go!"I stammer, already sitting up. "Why can't I ever have
any fun? I want to be able to do what I want to do, not what other
people want me to do!"
"You must go! Now hurry!"
I throw on my five layers of clothing and head down to breakfast.
"Here's my girl" father announced.
"Finally. It seems as if she's a child of six getting ready
instead of a young lady of fourteen." mother says.
"Oh, mother! Must I go?" I ask.
"Yes. You are my daughter and you need to be there as well."
mother replies.
"Oh, darling. Let her have the day off. She's been going with you
all week. She's only a girl. Let her be one, and have fun."
father said. I love it when he stands up for me.
"But-" mother is cut off by father.
"Now, now. You can go without her for one day. She'll be
fine." father said.
"Okay. Just this once." mother said. I could tell she was a
bit angry.
"Thank you, father! Thank you mother! I will be on my best
behavior, I promise!"
"Well you should be. What else do I pay those nannies for?"
exclaimed mother.
I ate breakfast as fast as I could, and hurried out for my walk. I
could still see the dew on the flowers in the garden. How I love to
get out of the palace and take a walk, especially on warm mornings
like these. It is 1763 and I am bound to enjoy it. I always do some
thinking when I take my walks. Today I had my heart set on seeing new
sights. Visiting new places. Meeting new people. How much I want to
leave. That's a perfect plan! To leave. Just get a little food and go
somewhere new!
"Katrina! Wake up!" calls the maid right into my ear.
