On a dark, gloomy day, two boys could be found riding their bicycles
through
town to get to their school. It was just starting to rain. They
pedalled along the sidewalk.
One of the boys names was Pédro. His family was from Mexico and had
just moved
there. The other boy’s name was Kevin. They were best friends.
Pédro was short and a
bit chubby. You couldn’t really notice it since he wore really baggy
clothing. His shirts
all went down to his knees. Shoes weren’t easily noticed under the
huge blue jeans
covering a large percent of them. His arms were pretty big, but no
one ever knew he had
skinny little legs that gave him problems when he least needed them
since he never
EVER wore shorts anywhere he went. Kevin was the tallest boy in 7th
grade. He didn’t
have the slightest ounce of fat on him. He was into basketball and
the fastest runner in
middle school. He wore tight clothes and wore shorts even when it was
below freezing.
A jacket couldn’t be found anywhere in his house, much less on him.
Anyway, these two
were riding their bikes to school in the rain which had started to
pour instead of drizzle.
A school bus passed them and slung mud all over the two as it went
through a large
puddle. “Just great!” Kevin said angrily.
“What else could go wrong?” Pédro said in his noticable accent. He
learned
English in Mexico. They taught him in school. No matter what though
he couldn’t lose
his accent until he got better at speaking English.
“Hmmm...well...we’re almost there. Let’s keep going. Maybe we can
explain
what happened.”
“Right...”
As they finally reached the parking lot of their school, a portal was
discovered by
the eyes of Pédro. “Hey man...what’s that?” He asked, puzzled.
“Don’t ask me...” Kevin replied.
“What is it?”
“I just told you not to ask me! Let’s go see.”
The two ran off to get a closer look. It was blue and purple and a
swirling mass
of beauty. The beauty was only on the outside though. Beyond it
would be the largest
challenge the two boys ever faced. Kevin decided to thrust his hand
through it. He
pulled it back out undamaged. “Hmmm...seems okay to me.” He said.
Without thinking
twice he walked through it. Pédro followed, thinking something might
have happened to
his friend.
They found themselves in a primitive medieval town. The people
stopped what
they were doing to stare. “Ummm...Pédro? Where are we, dude?” Kevin
asked,
nervously. “I have no idea...” Pédro replied. “Witches!” an old
woman yelled out.
“NoNoNo!” Kevin said, “We come from the future...I think.”
“Yeah!” Pédro said, hoping to change their minds, “A world of advanced
technology...”
“If you come from the future you must be the two the prophets told us
about. The two
that would help us...but...you look like boys...” a man said.
“Help you with what?” Kevin asked.
“Our king is evil and he is unjust. We cannot get rid of him. Taxes
and wrongful
punishments.”
“I guess we need to help you then...” Kevin replied.
“No way man...this is too much.” Pédro said.
“Fine...go back. This could make us famous though...instead of being
so bored in history
class we could be reading about ourselves. Imagine what everyone else
would say man.
We would be famous!”
“What happens if we alter history and we go back and everyone has
three heads or
something?”
“Man...use some common sense! That won’t happen.”
“Well alright...”
“Great...so what do we do?”
“First, we need Shirley to make you some weapons.” A woman said.
“Shirley?” Pédro asked.
“The blacksmith...” she said, “she is extremely good at making
wonderful weapons of
warfare. I don’t know why we couldn’t beat the king. Maybe we just
need good
leaders.”
“Alright then...” Kevin said.
The town immediately fixed up Pédro and Kevin a place to stay.
Afterwards they
taught them how to reach a proficient level of swordsmanship. Since
there were no guns
in this age...maybe it won’t be as easy as the two expected. Shirley
made the weapons
anxiously. She was trying to make her most prized weapons yet. They
were light but
very long with the sharpest edges known to the time period. The two
boys were satisfied.
“Man...this is cool...” Kevin said.
“Let’s just hope we don’t get killed...” Pédro, “I don’t wanna get
killed at age
13.”
“Don’t worry about it man...how hard could it be? Some stupid fat
lazy idiot that
can’t fight is the ruler of a huge kingdom and army?”
“Precisely...the army is what I’m worried about.”
“We can take them with our new weapons.”
“I doubt it...they are extremely well-trained.”
“Whatever...”
Kevin didn’t seem to be very worried. Pédro was scared that he would
be killed.
So...he waited until everyone went to sleep and went back through the
portal. It closed
right after he walked out. In the morning, Kevin awoke to find Pédro
gone... “Some
friend...” he said, a bit disappointed. He quickly suited himself
with armor and his
weapon and decided to try and attack without any help whatsoever.
“They’ll never find me,” He said, confidently, “I’ve seen enough war
movies to
know how to fight better than a soldier in my time probably.”
The first step he took he was caught by the guards in the towers.
Later that night
he was hanged for attempted murder of the king. It appears Pédro made
a good choice.
He never seen Kevin again. No one ever knew what happened to the poor
boy. Pédro
felt guilty...but after a while he looked at it as if it were Kevin’s
fault instead of his. He
forgot about him in 15 years but it haunted his sleep almost every
night.
