A World of Your Own
9:30 pm:You watched the numerous animated figures flashing on and off
of your computer screen. A tiger and rhino met in the middle. You
typed the command, "COMBINE" with a swipe of authority on
the last letter and voila! On your screen was your new creation,
another addition to your virtual world. As you spliced, diced, and
just plain messed around with the DNA of your creatures, you got to
wishing. If only real life could be like this game; you would be in
control of everything. You would have power over your enemies, while
friends would run to you as if you were a magnet. You'd have no
problems.
"Oh, leave me alone!"
"Why don't you?" The harsh shouting of your parents
fighting, yet again, pulled you out of your dream.
"A world of my own is just what I need..." you mumbled as
you fell asleep to the soft hum of the computer.
About an hour later:You opened your eyes expecting to see your
computer screen, but instead found yourself lying on your back in the
tall, brown grass of the savanna. A gentle breeze was stirring around
you, and a few trees dotted the horizon. You jumped up!
"What on Earth?!" A strange beast was approaching you. It
had the gray, wrinkled head of a rhinocerous, but its body was a
tiger's! It had come from a thick jungle on your left you hadn't
noticed before. It didn't seem friendly or hostile, just curious.
Even so, you backed away. To your surprise, the creature spoke! In a
rough, low voice it said "What are you doing here, only we
creatures of the game have ever set foot in these parts."
"I-I don't know!" You stutter "I just, just fell asleep
in my house and now I'm here! Where is here anyway?" Before the
creature could answer, another animal came out of the jungle. Rather,
it flew out. It looked like a cross between a parrot and a widcat,
with bright feathered wings and body, but stout, furry legs with long,
sharp claws.
"It's your world, you should know!" It screeched, then flew
away into the distance. The creature's words echoed through your mind.
Your world, your world, your world.......
