"Thanks...um, Maria, Bridget, this is Larken. She's a senior
girl, and she'll be the assistant supervisor of your dormitory,"
Charity explains.
"Hello, Larken," you greet her.
"Hello. What's all the chaos?" Larken asks.
"Again," Charity says.
"Again? When is somebody going to..."
Larken doesn't get to finish, though, because before she can, Mr.
Anderson reappears, exclaiming,
"By golly by gum, if...and she...and I..."
"Mr. Anderson, what's wrong?" you ask.
"I'll TELL you what's wrong...poor Marguerite-Anne has been
blamed for breaking that stupid vase...if Matilda Fishburn doesn't
quit wrongly accusing these girls..."
"Girls, we can worry about this later," Larken cuts in.
"You need to get to your rooms."
Larken takes you and Bridget to the room you will share in your new
dorm, shows you where to put your things, and then leaves because she
has a Latin class. You and Bridget unpack and then sit on your bed,
looking at each other.
"Has everyone in this school gone completely nuts?" you ask.
"I don't know," Bridget answers, "but we better find
out."
"Oh, Charity...I'm glad I found you when I did. When the new
girls get settled, Ms. Fishburn says they should get to class
immediately," the girl explains breathlessly.
