Midway through the unbelievably long and boring class, as you're
trying to figure out negative slopes, you think you hear something
coming from across the room, but when you look, you don't see
anything. When you hear the same noise again a few minutes later, you
look again, but see nothing.
"Elizabeth Hollis!" Kepler the Killer suddenly yells.
You recognize Elizabeth from the group in the hallway--a blonde girl
with freckles. She stands beside her desk and faces Miss Kepler,
looking frightened.
"Yes, Miss Kepler?" you hear her ask.
"What is the meaning of this!" Miss Kepler yells that
instead of asking it, and holds up her grade book. It's covered with
ink, and since you're sitting near the front of the room, you can see
that everyone's grades have been changed to "F's". In a
flash, you've figured it out...Elizabeth is being blamed because she's
the closest one to the teacher's desk, but you know she couldn't be
responsible because when you saw her a few minutes ago, she was
working.
This, you think, must be the mystery. Someone's causing chaos in the
school, and innocent people are being blamed left and right. You
smile. You've read plenty of mysteries--maybe you and Bridget can
solve this one.
Your first class, you find out, is your least favorite--algebra.
What's worse, Bridget doesn't share this class with you, and the icing
on the cake is that your teacher is Miss Kepler, better known as
Kepler the Killer.
