"Oh my goodness! You two must be the detectives in charge of this
case. I have heard a lot about the pair of you," Mrs DeLyon
gabbled through her sobs, dabbing at her powdered face with a designer
handkerchief, fingers glittering with red polish and many exquisite
rings. "Detective...?"
"Callahan," you replied quickly, extending your hand.
"Oh, yes. And Detective...?"
"Alexei," Clyde said smartly, doing the same.
"Oh, it's good to see you," Mrs DeLyon sobbed. "It's so
tragic that this has happened! My husband has spent so much time on
getting that jewel for me - he even dedicated it to me on its
plaque!"
She gestured helplessly towards the golden plaque, which now looked
lost without its subject in the glass case.
As Mrs DeLyon continued to sob, you took in her appearance. As always,
Mrs DeLyon was looking polished, with her face fully made up with
powder, rouge and lipstick. Her ash blonde hair was twisted back into
an elegant chignon, which suited her on top of the champagne dress and
cream fur coat she was wearing. You noticed the expensive high heels
on her feet, and also the diamonds at her ears and throat.
"Yes, they are lovely, aren't they?" Mrs DeLyon commented,
realizing what you were looking at.
You and Clyde show your ID cards to the police out front, before being
admitted into the museum. It wasn't hard to find the chamber which
previously held the diamond, as most of the people inside were either
heading in or out of there. As you two approached, you heard the
distinctive wailing of who you THOUGHT was Mrs DeLyon. You raised your
eyebrows at Clyde as you both entered the chamber.
