Panicking, you sit up, a twinge of pain in your sore back. You are in
a circular chamber of gleaming pale gray stone. There is a beautiful
fountain in the room’s center, and there are six doors on the room’s
walls. The room’s only light comes from the large skylight above you.
Dazed, you walk over to the fountain, drinking your fill from the
cool water there.
As soon as you finish drinking, a calm, female voice fills the room.
“Welcome to the Portal of Possibilities. Six doors, and six
adventures, await you. In each adventure there are friends of beauty
and wisdom, and joy beyond anything you can imagine. But beware, in
each adventure there are foes of cruelty and evil, and danger beyond
anything you have experienced. So go forth, weary traveler, and
enjoy!”
The voice has gone, and you are left alone with a difficult decision.
You examine the six doors. A small, framed painting is hung on each
door. You examine the paintings.
The first door’s painting is of a beautiful, rushing waterfall.
The second door’s painting is a bird’s eye view of a huge stone maze.
The third door’s painting is of a huge green dragon.
The fourth door’s painting is of an immense stone castle.
The fifth door’s painting is of a small cottage.
The sixth door’s painting is of a large, Victorian mansion.
Now you must choose. Which door will you enter?
You open your eyes. You must have been sleeping, but you don’t feel
rested. You feel fatigued, parched, and hungry. Your entire body is
very sore and protests the slightest movement. You search your memory
for an explanation of your pain, but your memory is completely empty.
You can’t even think of who you are!
