You start your quest on a small dirt path in a dense forest. It’s warm
and sunny, and birds are singing. An occasional fairy flutters through
trees, and you think you see a faun running past. Soft music, almost
medieval, is playing in the distance, and gets louder as you run
through the forest. You see a sunny opening, which ends the forest,
you run towards it and you gasp in awe as it opens up into a huge
grassy expanse. You have arrived in Dreamland Field! A majestic white
horse named Camelot is tied up to a tree on the edge of the forest.
You untie him and get on. Camelot will help you transverse Dreamland
Field with much ease. As you ride on Camelot, the wind whips through
your hair. You head towards the music, which is eastwards. In the
distance looms a huge stone wall, and behind that a castle, so you
ride over to it. At the drawbridge, you tie Camelot to a wooden post,
and cross over. You read a sign. It says, “Welcome to Dreamland Castle
Town, Marketplace just ahead.” So you head into the marketplace, the
music cheery and inviting. As you enter, many people dressed in
medieval-type clothing greet you. There are minstrels playing
mandolins and singing, people selling things, a pig roasting on a spit
in the center, and all sorts of shops and games and things to do. You
enter a shop called “The Magic Potion Shoppe.” An old woman says to
you, “Come in, and try one of my many potions!” You look around and
indeed, there are hundreds of different types of potions. Potions to
cure warts, love potions, potions to make you stronger, so many things
to choose from! You choose a hero potion, not knowing what it actually
does. But you forgot something! Money! But the old woman smiles and
says, “You do not need any money for that…Take it!” You wonder how she
knew what you were thinking….
You go back into the marketplace and look at your potion. You take the
bottle and drink the whole thing down. You immediately feel stronger.
Someone pokes you on the shoulder. You turn and see a young boy, that
looks about five years old. He says to you, “Go to the castle and see
the king!” and points towards the Castle. So you head towards it.
Along the way, people say things like, “The Hero is here!” or “The
Hero is going to save us from the evil Alagian!” You wonder who this
Alagian is, and why people are calling you a hero. Then it dawns on
you it must have been that hero potion…
You get to the entrance to the castle. One of the guards nods at you
and points towards the door. You open the huge wooden door and step
onto red carpeting. The king’s throne is at the end of he long red
carpet. You kneel down when you get to him and say, “Your Majesty.”
The king says, “Finally! You have arrived to save us from the evil
Alagian! I am Galeideth, King of Dreamland. I suspect you want to know
what is going on.” And King Galeideth tells you this story:
“Before there was time, Dreamland was created for all things magical
and wonderful to live. Things humans dream of. But at the same time,
another world was also created, called Nightmareland. And that is why
humans also have nightmares. Dreamland has always been peaceful and
harmonious, and Nightmareland just the opposite. The two separate
worlds lived next to each other, without any problems. But recently,
the evil King Alagian of Nightmareland, found his way into our world.
He reeked havoc on this peaceful land, and his evil intentions are to
turn Dreamland just as terrible as Nightmareland! I sent my best men
to stop him. He was weak for a while, and almost defeated, until one
day he came upon what he was looking for. The White Crystal! This
crystal has been our lifesource for all of time. It keeps peace in the
world. With Alagian as it’s holder now, this world will slowly turn
evil, just as Nightmareland is. Your job is to defeat King Alagian,
and bring back the White Crystal to it’s resting place in The Rainbow
Fountains! If you do not, my kingdom will surely turn evil, and humans
will no longer have peaceful and wonderful dreams! Please, begin your
quest! And thank you so much!”
With this, you tell King Galeideth that you will do your best. He then
tells you to go to the old wizard Solomon, who lives up in the Blue
Mountains, for he will tell you how to defeat Alagian. You then exit
the castle, wondering how you always manage to get yourself into these
kinds of messes. You go into Dreamland Castle Marketplace, and have a
meal of roasted pig and ale, to begin your journey with some food in
your stomach. After your meal, you head over, on Camelot, in the
direction of the Blue Mountains, courtesy of some kind villager’s
directions. You near the path leading up into the mountains. You start
up the path. Meanwhile, it is turning to dusk. The sky is darkening as
the sun sets. After about an hour of riding, you see a small cottage.
A sign next to it proclaims, “Solomon: Wizard of Time.” You wonder
what that means. You knock on the door, and from inside a voice says,
“Please enter, Hero!” Hmmm...all these people seem to know who you are
even before they lay eyes on you. Strange. You tie Camelot to a nearby
tree and enter the cottage. An old, old man sitting on a chair smiles
and says, “I knew you would come, Hero. Please sit down.” And gestures
to a chair next to him. You ask him why he is called “The Wizard of
Time.” He says, “I am called the Wizard of Time simply because I have
been around since the beginning of time. I am immortal. Now, the king
has sent you to me because I know the way to defeat Alagian.” You ask
him if he knows how to defeat him, then why doesn’t he just go do it
himself? He says, “If I step one foot outside of the Blue Mountains, I
am powerless. That is why you must do it! And there is only one way to
defeat him. You must take this magic staff and recite an ancient
incantation.” He hands you the staff and says the incantation:
“Manifestation of evil, go from here. Back to your land of hate and
turmoil. Leave this peaceful world, never to return! I command you!
Leave Dreamland forever!”
Then he says, “With this magical staff and incantation, you will send
the evil Alagian back to his own horrible realm of Nightmareland. I
will warn you; Alagian is a very powerful man, but I know you will
have the courage and power to defeat him! To help you defeat him, a
special fairy named Naliah, who lives in the Fairy Valley, will give
you something to make you more powerful against Alagian, to resist his
evil! Head out of the Blue Mountains west towards the Tulip Hills, and
nestled within you will find the Fairy Valley! Go, brave Hero!” And
with those last words, you exit the cottage and get onto Camelot. By
now, it is the dead of night, and you can hear owls hooting. You ride
Camelot out of the Blue Mountains and head towards the west. You ride
until dawn, then decide to try and find something to eat. As you are
approaching the Tulip Hills, you see a large building. A sign next to
it states, “Dreamland Diner. Good food! Come in and have a bite!” You
tie up Camelot and enter. You are greeted by a plump, cheery woman,
who seats you at a wooden table. She asks you what you want, and when
you ask for a menu, she says, “We have everything here. Just ask for
anything your heart desires, and you will have it!” So you think for a
bit, then decide you want a burger with curly fries on the side, a
coke, and apple pie a la’ mode for dessert! She says, “Coming right
up!” and points at the table in front of you. Magically, everything
you just asked for appears right in front of your eyes! Amazing! You
thank her and eat it all up. After you are done, you ask the woman for
something for Camelot, and she gives you a couple of carrots and an
apple, and tells you there is a stream of fresh water just behind the
diner. You leave the diner and give the carrots and apple to Camelot.
While he is drinking from the stream, you wonder for a while if you
can really be the Hero of Dreamland. When Camelot is done, you get on
him and ride up into the Tulip Hills.
After you ride through the hills for about and hour, you decide you
need some help. You see a little elf gathering some flowers. You ask
him which direction the Fairy Valley is. He says, “It’s just ahead,
look for the giant purple willow tree and you will know that you are
there.” You thank him and keep riding in the direction you were going.
In the distance, you see a huge purple willow tree and a sign that
says, “You are now entering Fairy Valley! Please, no horses! Fairies
and horses do not get along!” So you tie Camelot up to the willow tree
and head into Fairy Valley. Inside, you are amazed by how many fairies
there are! It looks as though someone has sprinkled glitter in the
air! Tiny fairies fly everywhere. On the ground, there are more
fairies. They are larger, almost the size of a human child. You
approach one that has wings of gold and ask where Naliah resides. She
says, “Hello, Hero! Naliah has been waiting for you! I am Goldeen, a
very good friend of Princess Naliah! Come with me!” As you are walking
with her, you ask why horses and fairies don’t get along. She says,
“Well, you see the tiny fairies flying through the air?” You nod. She
then says, “Well, horses seem to think of them as snacks!” she
giggles. Then you ask why some fairies are larger than others. She
answers, “The small fairies are called nanoFairies We child-sized
fairies are called macroFairies. And the giant fairies are called the
megaFairies; Princess Naliah is one of those. We can all fly and we
all have magical powers!” Finally, you come up to a glittering castle
adorned with flowers and jewels. Goldeen opens the door and you both
go in. She leads you to a beautiful throne room. Goldeen says,
“Princess Naliah! The Hero is here!” You walk towards a Fairy the size
of a very large grown human, almost 7 feet tall! She has platinum hair
and purple eyes, and golden wings just like Goldeen’s. She says to
you, “Hero, you have finally arrived! I am Princess Naliah. Solomon
has sent you to me to receive a magical power to help you defeat
Alagian. Receive it now!” She then raises her right hand and points a
finger at you. A white light streams from her finger and as it touches
you, you begin to feel very powerful. She then says, “I have given you
the Fairy Light. It will guard you against Alagian’s evil and help you
defeat him much easier!” You look at one of your hands, and there is a
faint glow coming from them! Then Naliah says to you, “Now you must go
to where Alagian is living now! He is residing in the woods that were
once called the Peaceful Woods, but some have unofficially renamed
them the Woods of No Return! The Woods of No Return are to the north.
You must find his cottage in the woods and send him back to
Nightmareland! The fate of Dreamland is in your hands! Go, brave
Hero!” And with that, you say goodbye to Naliah and Goldeen and exit
the castle.
You leave Fairy Valley and get on Camelot and start riding towards the
east. By this time, it is late afternoon. Around twilight, you see
something that looks out of place here in peaceful Dreamland. A huge
black forest looms ahead of you. The air here has an evil density to
it. You can hear wolves howling, and bats above. This must be the
Forest of No Return! You slowly, reluctantly approach the forest. King
Galeideth was right about the evil slowly taking over in Dreamland. It
must start in the Forest of No Return and will continue to spread
until all the land is evil! You know now how important your quest is
and you continue bravely into the darkness.
About a half-hour later, you are lost. So you seek someone to help you
out. A tired looking mintaur is walking down the path, the opposite
way that you are going. You ask him where Alagian’s cottage is, and he
replies, “You are looking for Alagian? Are you one of his followers?”
You tell him no and tell him that you are going to try and defeat him.
He smiles and says, “You are, really? Well, if I tell you where his
cottage is will you do me a favor?” You nod. Then he says, “My name is
Terris. Alagian kidnapped my daughter Phinea, and he said the only way
for me to get her back was to be loyal to him and to get rid of the
Hero! I said I would, but now I see that you are strong and brave, and
I know you will defeat the evil Alagian and return peace to this land!
Thank you ever so much. Go down this path, then take the first right,
and about a half-mile down is Alagian’s cottage! I wish you luck,
brave Hero!” Then Terris leaves you to defeat Alagian. You go the in
the direction Terris told you to go and arrive at a dark and
foreboding-looking cottage. You tie up Camelot, and enter into the
dark cottage.
You peer cautiously through the darkness. You see nothing. Now, with
the Fairy Light Naliah gave you, you are glowing more than ever! The
glow lights up the room enough for you to see a dark figure
holding-could it be?! The White Crystal! The crystal radiates a
brilliant white light. The figure, seemingly mesmerized by it, does
not notice you. You approach him cautiously as you take out the
magical staff. But as you are walking towards him, you trip over
something on the floor! The figure turns, and smiles wickedly at you!
Suddenly, the whole room is lit up! He says, “Ah, hero, you have
arrived. I am Alagian, King of Nightmareland! I knew that stupid
Terris would do nothing! No matter, I will take care of you myself! He
points the crystal at you and a beam of white light knocks you to the
ground! It does not hurt, and you are not taken aback too much,
probably because of the Fairy Light. As you struggle to remember the
magical incantation, you hear a wailing. You look in the direction of
the wailing and see a small mintaur tied up. Phinea! But Alagian is
your main worry now. You hold your staff up and just as you are about
to recite the incantation, Alagian uses the crystal’s beam to knock it
out of your hands! He bellows, “Ha! Stupid mortal! Thinking you can
use weak magic against me! I will rule both worlds now!” He begins
laughing uncontrollably. This is your chance! You get up quickly and
kick the crystal from Alagian’s hands! As it drops to the floor, the
light in the room fades to black, and the only light now is your body
glowing. As he gropes around in the darkness for the crystal, you pick
up your staff and begin the incantation! You say:
“Manifestation of evil, go from here. Back to your land of hate and
turmoil. Leave this peaceful world, never to return! I command you!
Leave Dreamland forever!”
As you say these words, the room lights up brilliantly and Alagian
begins to scream! Suddenly, a huge black hole appears behind him. He
is sucked into it. You hear his faint words of warning to you just
before the void closes up, “You have not seen the last of me, mortal!
I will be back!” You have defeated Alagian! You breathe a sigh of
relief. Just as you are picking up the White Crystal, you hear a
scream! Oh no! Alagian is back, you think! But to your relief, it is
just Phinea. You get the crystal and go over to Phinea and untie her.
Then you both leave the cottage. Just as you go out the door, the
cottage vanishes into thin air, leaving a clearing in its place. The
woods now are sunny and birds are singing! You have restored peace to
Dreamland! Phinea says, “Thank you so much! Here is a present for you
for saving me!” She takes a small pendant out of her pocket and puts
it around your neck. “Goodbye!” she says, and trots off towards her
home. You get on Camelot and, with a smile on your face, ride off
towards Dreamland Castle, crystal in hand.
When you arrive, you are tired and weary, but happy your quest is
finally over. King Galeideth greets you as you enter the castle.
“Hero! You have saved our beautiful land! Now it is your honor to
return the White Crystal to the resting place! But first, a feast!
Rest for a little while, and then I will have a huge feast waiting for
you!” So you go into a room King Galeideth has for you. Later on, when
you wake up, one of the King’s servants brings you in some fine
clothes to wear to the feast. You get dressed and enter the feast
hall. Sitting at the table are some friends you met along the way. The
witch that gave you the hero potion, Solomon, the woman from the
Dreamland Diner, Princess Naliah, Goldeen, Terris, Phinea, and many
others! You have a great time at the feast, and when you are all done,
everyone at the table heads out of the castle, and to the left of the
castle, there is a huge wall made entirely of opal. King Galeideth
opens the gate and you all step inside. It is the Rainbow Fountains!
Beautiful rainbow-colored waterfalls and streams surround the entire
courtyard. There are flowers growing everywhere, and right in the
center of it all, a lone pedestal with a plaque underneath it reads,
“The Legendary White Crystal.” As everyone stands watching, King
Galeideth tells you, “Now, put the crystal back in its resting place.”
You take the crystal out of your pocket and approach the pedestal.
Gently, you lower the Crystal into it’s spot. As you do, the world
suddenly gets a little brighter, and everyone begins clapping and
cheering! Minstrels begin playing, and everyone dances! King Galeideth
says to you, “Brave Hero, I knew you would not disappoint me! Here is
a gift for you! He hands you a shining stone. “It’s a small piece of
the White Crystal. It will guide you back to the world of Humans.
Farewell, Hero!”
As you begin to leave, everyone says goodbye to you. You are truly a
Hero! You see Camelot tied up to a tree. You release him and give him
a pat, and then he runs off into the distance. As you leave the
cheering and laughter, you smile to yourself and squeeze the small
shining stone and wish to be home. As you wish this, you appear in
your house, the only proof that you ever were in Dreamland is Phinea’s
pendant and the stone that Galeideth gave you. You hear a faint voice
say, “Hero, this is King Galeideth! If you ever wish to return to
Dreamland, all you have to do is wish upon the stone that I gave you!
I will be waiting for your return!” And you know in your heart, you
will return to Dreamland someday, for another quest, another
adventure, but for now, you lay down in your bed, knowing you will
dream happy dreams! Your next adventure has yet to come.....
There is a world that exists only in your dreams. The day is brighter
than any day you have ever seen, but the nights are darker than the
far distant corners of the universe. The forests are dense and lush
and full of creatures. Magic is not just tricks that magicians perform
to fool audiences, but as real as the sun and moon. Fairies dance
through the air and elves hide in huge hollowed out trees. This world
is called Dreamland, and you are about to take an amazing journey
through it...
