It has been a mere two months since you were whisked away to Dreamland
for your second adventure. You can still remember the chilling journey
through Nightmareland. It seems that both times you were in Dreamland
that it was only a dream; the only memories are ones that your mind
has made up at night while you are asleep. Wonderful memories of the
first adventure, and not so wonderful ones about the second. You hope
that someday you will return, but you never realized it would be this
soon. There is a loud pop and a puff of smoke, and when the purplish
smoke clears, there is a package on your bed. You cautiously approach
the package and unwrap it carefully. Inside, there are 4 vials of some
funny-looking liquids and 4 ornate keys that correspond in color to
the liquids in the vials. You read the vials; one is marked fire,
another water, another air, and the last earth. Inside the package,
there is also a note written in beautiful calligraphy. It says:
Dear Hero,
I am asking your help once again.
Alagian has managed to return to Dreamland, and he has taken advantage
over the elements now, by stealing Dreamland’s Elemental Stone. The
elements are out of control; fires have ravaged some forests, the
winds are horrendous, seas are flooding, and the earth refuses to grow
flowers and plants. The things responsible for the elements going out
of control are four monsters Alagian has created from them. A fire
monster, a water monster, an air monster, and an earth monster. He has
hidden each of these in a locked room inside the Labyrinth of Light.
The keys are to open the doors, and the vials are potions for you to
become invincible to these monsters. To get to the Labyrinth of Light,
you must first travel to the Crystal Caves, and the entrance to the
caves is nestled in The Blue Mountains. I have assigned a nanoFairy to
help you along in your quest, named Piccolina. She will meet you as
soon as you travel to Dreamland. I am not available at this time
because I am busy trying to control the elements. I know that they
will not return to normal until you destroy the monsters and rescue
the Elemental Stone. When you return to Dreamland, Princess Naliah of
the Fairies will show you your new weapon, The Celestial Sword. With
this, and the potions, you will surely defeat Alagian’s monsters.
Thank you Hero!
Sincerely,
King Galeideth
With this, you find your piece of the White Crystal that Galeideth
gave you on your first adventure, and with potions and keys in hand,
you wish to be back in Dreamland. You are transported through the
Rainbow-colored portal, and you arrive in a slightly different
Dreamland in front of Dreamland Castle. It is very windy, and there
are less flowers than you remember from last time. A small fire has
broken out on some dry leaves, and the ground is quite mushy from
flooding. King Galeideth was right; you must rescue the Elemental
Stone. You walk towards the castle a bit, and then Naliah steps out
from behind a tree. She looks just as you remember her; tall, with
purple eyes, platinum hair, and golden wings. She looks very
beautiful, and very scared. She says to you, “ Ah, Hero, you have
returned to once again save this land. Dreamland has never been this
bad before. Alagian has really made a mess this time. I should go over
to his precious Nightmareland and grow flowers, just to spite him! Oh
well, I am rambling on, so let me tell you what Galeideth has told me
to tell you. He said that Piccolina will accompany you and you will
use the Celestial Sword. I will also show you where the Crystal Caves
are, so we had better get going before these elements get any worse.”
She hands you a very beautiful sword adorned with yellow and blue
crystals in the shapes of stars and moons. It glows with an unearthly
brilliance. Just then, a tiny fairy surrounded by a glittery puff of
mist flies out from behind Naliah. She flies over to you and says in a
high voice that sounds much like a piccolo, “Hello there! I am
Piccolina. I am going to help you in the Crystal Caves and The
Labyrinth of Light. We’ll be great partners! I have heard so much
about you, Hero!” The fairy flutters to and fro, making you a bit
dizzy. It is time to begin your quest, so you, Piccolina, and Naliah
begin the short journey to the Blue Mountains.
It takes only about a half-hour on foot. As you reach the Blue
Mountains, the sun begins to dip low in the sky. You scale the first
mountain, and when you reach the peak, Naliah presses a rock jutting
out of the side of the next mountain. To your surprise, a whole
section on the wall opens up. Naliah bids you farewell, and you and
Piccolina enter the Crystal Caves. Piccolina tells you that the first
cavern is called the Rainbow Crystal Cavern. Inside, the ceilings are
high and every inch of the walls are covered with crystals. Crystals
of all colors, shapes, and sizes are jutting out from about every
place imaginable. The ground has so many crystals that you must step
around them to make your way to the next cave opening. Piccolina tells
you the name of the next cave, the Black Crystal Cavern. When you step
through the next opening, you are stunned at the beauty of the black
crystals. It’s like a whole cave of marcasite, set in silver walls. It
is quite a bit darker in this room because of the darkness of the
crystals, but beautiful nonetheless. At the end of the Black Crystal
Cavern, there are 3 openings. Piccolina tells you to go through the
left one. Inside, is a very interesting sight. It is like a wonderful
copy of a piece of Dreamland, all made out of crystal. Pink and purple
crystal flowers, green crystal grass, blue crystal streams, even fairy
and elves and other creatures made out of crystal. Through the next
opening, you step into quite a hot cavern. Piccolina informs you that
this is the Molten Crystal Cavern. It is just a huge room, with
glittery red magma on both sides of a small black crystalline path,
that forks in the middle. Piccolina instructs you to take the right
path, and to watch your feet! You are sweating by the time you exit
the Molten Crystal Cavern. As you enter the next room, you survey your
surroundings. Inside, it is like an icy cavern, and very cold.
Piccolina says that this is the Crystal Ice Cavern. Lovely ice-blue
crystals adorn the walls. Your breath forms little puffs of steam when
you exhale. As you approach the far wall in the Crystal Ice Cavern,
there are many openings to choose from. Piccolina says that the
opening marked with the Light symbol, a golden sun, is the one you
must go through to reach the Labyrinth of Light. Inside the final
room, gorgeous golden-colored crystals give off sun-like light. The
room is as warm and friendly as a sunny spring day. Piccolina says
this is the Light Crystal Cavern. You wish you could stay in this
room, but you know you must save Dreamland, and you press on.
At the end of the room, a large wall covered in light crystals holds
one single door, marked with the Light symbol. Before you enter,
Piccolina tells you what you need to know about the Labyrinth of
Light. “Hero, this door leads to the Labyrinth of Light. However, the
Labyrinth is nothing that you would expect. With Alagian’s evil
pervading the Labyrinth, it is no longer sunny and light. It has
become dark and dreary, much like the dungeons in Nightmareland. Evil
creatures lurk around every corner, and the halls are twisting and
confusing. The four bosses are hidden in four different locked rooms,
one at each of the four corners of the Labyrinth. The Elemental Stone
is in the center if the Labyrinth. You must defeat all four monsters
for the door leading to the center of the Labyrinth to become
unlocked, so you can retrieve the stone. Because the hallways are so
twisted, even I get lost now and again. Without the light to guide you
through the halls, it is that much more difficult. So, on the other
side of this door will be a map. Take it, and it should guide you
through the halls with ease. Also, the Fairy Light Naliah gave to you
on your first adventure should help light the halls and make it easier
for you. I know you can do this!” With this information, you are ready
to enter into the unknown.
When you open the door, you step into a darkened hallway. The Fairy
Light lights up the hall enough for you to see that the walls are made
of rusted metal dripping with a red substance that looks like blood,
and the floors look like they are made of chain links covering what
appear to be bottomless chasms. With disgust, you turn to the door you
just entered and pick up the map to the Labyrinth stuck to the door.
Piccolina tells you that you must first defeat the fire monster
located in the corner room of the northern wing. So you begin to make
your way over towards the northern wing, using the map as a guide. As
you turn around a very dark corner, three reddish bat-like creatures
come flying at your face. Piccolina yells, “Watch out! Those are
redbats! Quick! Use your sword!” So you point the sword at the
redbats ready to slice them to bits, but to your utter surprise, a
beam of yellow and blue light penetrates each creature quickly and
they disappear out of sight! When you get over the shock, you begin to
walk again. All of a sudden, you start to fall! When you land on your
feet, you are in a familiar place. In front of the door to the
Labyrinth of Light, inside the Light Crystal Cavern! What happened?
Piccolina says, “You have fallen through a trap. These are in various
spots throughout the Labyrinth. Each one takes you back here. The only
way to get around them is to seal them with the Celestial Sword.” So
you re-enter the door and step into the horrible darkness. You take
the path you started with and encounter some more redbats, and you rid
them with the sword. You are careful to approach the trap now. As you
look down, you see a darkened hole in the floor with a pit swirling
with black mist that seems to lead nowhere, but you know now it leads
all the way back to the beginning. As you point the sword at the trap,
a metallic-blue celestial moon covers the spot, letting you pass
freely. You look at the map and continue down the corridor. Along the
way, you encounter more enemies, but each is fairly easy to defeat.
More traps block the way, but you seal them and make your way to the
first boss, the Fire Monster. A large locked red door blocks the
entrance to the room. You feel around in your pocket and take out the
4 keys. One of the keys matches the red door’s décor. So you slip the
key into the lock and turn slowly, afraid of what you might encounter.
As you reluctantly push the door open, you peek into an expansive
room. There is a raised rocky surface, with assorted holes and pits
filled with molten lava. The rock surface is like an island,
surrounded with lava, with a single thin bridge leading to the central
island. The room is hot and streaming, but appears to be empty.
However, a trembling coming from beneath the lava tells you that you
are not alone. In a huge burst of flame and smoke, a creature rises
from beneath the depths of the molten lava. It looks like a huge
serpentine creature made entirely of lava with eyes the color of
burning embers, and it’s breathing fire and smoke from it’s mouth, a
mouth full of huge teeth. A blast of smoke is aimed in your direction,
knocking you off your feet. The heat is becoming overpowering now, and
you need some water fast. Any minute now, you will surely burst into
flames. Then you remember the fire potion. You grope in your pocket
and pull out the red potion. You drink down the contents and
immediately the heat leaves your body and you are no longer sweating.
You rush up towards the monster, sword in hand, and point the tip of
the sword straight at its face. But it is too quick for you. The
monster breathes fire at you and your body is covered by the flames.
But because of the potion, you are retardant to fire! The monster
looks surprised that you were not burnt to a crisp by the flames, so
it begins trying to knock you into the lava! You rush to the middle of
the island to avoid being knocked off. You try to get a good bead on
the monster to blast it with the sword, but it is very quick and
agile. Finally, the sword shoots out a massive beam of blue and yellow
and the Fire Monster, who is by now bewildered that his attempts to
smoke you failed, is hit by the beam. It shrieks in agony, turning
into just a shell of what it once was and crumbles away, hitting the
lava and sparking, until the Fire Monster is no more. Then, in the
center of the island, a red light begins to glow. When the glows
fades, a small golden pendant with a red stone in the middle is
sitting on the ground. Piccolina says, “Good job, Hero! Now go get
that pendant. It’s called the Fire Garnet Amulet. After you defeat
each boss, an amulet will be left in the bosses place. You must
collect each in order to open the door to the center room in which the
Elemental Stone is held. So you collect the stone and head back out
into the corridor.
Now you must make you way to the eastern wing to defeat the Earth
Monster. Along the way, there are more traps, and some strange
monsters. As you near the door, there is a scuttling at your feet.
Piccolina says, “Get those creatures running around on the floor! They
are called frats! They are like rats, but called frats because they
are fat. Get rid of them, because if you don’t, they will chew up the
seals you made on the traps and you might fall down once
accidentally!” So you get rid of the quickly scurrying frats, and then
make your way to the earth door. The door is earthy in color, so you
take out the corresponding key and unlock the door. As it squeaks
open, you peer inside. The whole room is made of dirt. Large
toadstools grow all over the place, as well as other plants that look
like wolfsbane and nightshade. Again, there is no monster to be seen.
But soon, the ground begins to rumble and you are knocked to your feet
as a huge wave of dirt rises into the air as something surfaces from
beneath the ground! Dirt falls all over you and when the air clears,
there is the Earth Monster! It looks like the abominable snowman,
except that it is made entirely out of earth. Its eyes are brown and
glassy, and sharp fangs protrude from its huge mouth. It rushes
towards you with amazing speed, and grabs hold of you! It begins to go
back underground and it is taking you with it! You struggle against
the monster and finally break free. Before it attempts to take hold of
you again, you quickly swig down the brown earth potion. This time,
when the monster tries to bring you below the surface of the ground
and suffocate you with dirt, your feet remain above the surface. You
might as well have been standing on solid rock! The monster tries and
tries to pull you under, but to no avail. You break free from its
grasp and point the sword at the Earth Monster’s face, as the beam
from the sword hits it squarely between the eyes. The monster grunts
and explodes, sending dirt flying into the air, and all over you. Boy,
are you going to need a shower when you get out of here! Now a brown
light begins to glow in the center of the room, and when it resides,
another amulet is left in its place. Piccolina says, “That’s the Earth
Tiger’s Eye Amulet. Pick it up and let’s get out of here! This damp
earth is going to give me a cold. Achoo!” So you pick up the amulet
and make your way back into the Labyrinth. You follow the map towards
the southern wing, where the Air Monster resides, winding through the
corridors, never stopping to rest. Two down, two to go! You think you
are getting the hang of this, basking in your glory, when you begin to
fall. Again, you end up inside the Light Crystal Cavern. Oops!
Piccolina scolds you. “Hero! We have no time for these silly mistakes!
Get back in there and defeat the Air Monster!” She gives you a sour
look as you re-enter the door to the Labyrinth for the third time. You
make your way back to the southern wing, sealing traps and defeating
redbats and frats along the way. When you enter the southern wing, a
big grimy thing begins to lumber towards you! “What is THAT?!” you
scream. Piccolina says, “That is a Sewer Mucky. They like to eat away
at the chain link on the floors. These monsters are responsible for
the traps that you fall through quite often.” She gives you a look and
a glare. “You had better defeat it,” she says snottily. “You might
just fall down another trap and have to come all the way back here.
And you are so good at that, too.” She says with a snort. Geeze! What
a snooty fairy! You point the sword at the Sewer Mucky and get rid of
it. You make your way over to the clear air door and take out the key
that goes to it. You are now ready what to expect, so you enter
confidently.
Inside, it is actually very pretty, but very windy. You are surrounded
on all sides by just the blue sky, dotted with fluffy white clouds. In
the center is the biggest, fluffiest one of all, and that must be
where you are to battle. There is no monster in sight, but you know
there is one. In a huge gust of wind and with a heavy sigh, the
creature rises from beneath the largest cloud. The Air Monster looks
much like a ghost, so filmy and see-through that you can barely see
her. She is huge and with long flowing hair, and glowing blue eyes,
with an evil looking face. She kind of reminds you of those banshees
from old Ireland that you read about in school. She sounds like one,
too. With a blood-curdling screech, she blows wind straight at you.
The wind almost knocks you off the small cloud you are standing on!
You get quickly on your feet and drink the clear potion you pull from
your pocket. Another blast of wind, stronger this time, is aimed
straight at you, but the wind no longer affects you. Angry about the
attack not working, the Air Monster waves her hand in a circular
motion and conjures up a huge tornado! But you know you cannot be
affected by it, and you get ready to blast the monster. You rush
forward onto the central cloud and take aim at the monster. The beam
hits her and she writhes in agony. Then, with her last deafening
shriek, she dissipates into the air. Then a glow begins to emanate
from the central cloud, leaving another amulet. Piccolina says, “That
is the Air Diamond Amulet. Collect it, and let’s go get that Water
Monster!” So you exit the Air Monster’s lair and return to the
desolate corridors of the Labyrinth. Now you are so happy that you are
almost done, you are practically beaming. You use the map and continue
down the twisting hallways towards the western wing, to the Water
Monster. When you enter the west wing, you avoid the traps and
encounter a new monster. A reptilian thing is walking towards you.
Piccolina says, “That is a wizard. It is a lizard that knows magic.
Avoid its beams of magic and defeat it with your sword!” The wizard
points it’s large tail in your direction and a beam of purple magical
light comes towards you at lightening speed. It hits, and for a
second, you do not know where you are, or what is going on. A low
ribbit escapes your lips. You begin to shrink slowly. “Oh no!” says
Piccolina. “The wizard is turning you into a frog! Counterattack the
spell by defeating the wizard with your sword, and hurry! When the
wizard is defeated, you will return to normal!” With a hop and a
ribbit, you point the sword in the beast’s direction and get rid of
it. When it is gone, you grow back to your normal size. When you
determine that you are once human again, you resume your walk to the
Water Door. You unlock the blue door with the last key and enter.
Inside is just a vast pool in the middle of a plain room. Then
Piccolina tells you, “I can’t come down there in the water with you.
So, drink the potion now, and you can breathe underwater. Remember,
after you defeat the Water Monster, you must collect the Water
Sapphire Amulet. Good Luck!” So, with that said, you drink the blue
potion down and jump into the water. You swim all the way to the
bottom, breathing as if you were on dry land. There is no monster to
be seen. It is hard to swim with your sword, and the water is
beginning to whirlpool and shift all around you. Then from behind a
huge rock, the Water Monster appears. The monster is like a gigantic
jellyfish or octopus, blue in color, clear and see-through like a
jellyfish but with tentacles like an octopus, and with a mouth full of
teeth. Suddenly, the jellyfish-octopus shoots out one of its trailing
tentacles towards you in attempt to sting you. But since you are
invincible to it, you are not affected. Then, since that attack did
not work, the Water Monster begins to shoot ink into the water, so
that you cannot see a single thing. With the ink swirling through the
water now, the monster is nowhere to be found. But to your surprise,
something you never thought would help you down here does! The Fairy
Light! The light cuts through the ink so that you can see the creature
clearly. You point the sword in the direction of the Water Monster and
it hits, and with a burst of bubbles, the monster dissolves into the
water. There is a blue glow coming from near where the monster was
defeated. You collect the Water Sapphire Amulet left in its place, and
you swim to the surface. Piccolina is waiting there for you. She says,
“You’ve defeated all four monsters and collected all the amulets! Now
let’s go to the central room!” So you leave the water room and use the
map to make your way to the central room. Along the way, you encounter
more monsters than ever, including frats, redbats, sewer muckys, and
wizards. Many traps dot the path to the center room. Luckily, you do
not fall in any. Finally, you come to a huge red, blue, brown, and
clear door with four empty spots. Piccolina tells you to put an amulet
in each spot and the door will open. So you do as she says and the
door swings open. Inside, there is a pretty room with trees and
streams and flowers and many other things, and in the center is a lone
pedestal, holding the Elemental Stone! It is a shining crystal stone
with blue, red, clear, and brown accents. A glow emanates from it, and
as you walk towards it you hear a voice say, “Hero, you have defeated
my monsters well. I didn’t think you had it in you. For now I will
leave Dreamland alone, but count on me coming back, very soon! Never
underestimate the all-powerful King Alagian! Hah hah hah!”
You take his words seriously as you pick up the shining stone and you
and Piccolina make your way back out into the Labyrinth of Light. You
are expecting the dark and dreary corridors that are now familiar to
you, but in place of the corridors is a beautiful labyrinth made of
green ivy bushes studded with flowers. The Labyrinth of Light is
outdoors, for the sun is shining and birds are singing. What a
difference from those dank, twisting hallways! You and Piccolina go
though the Labyrinth of Light, which is a peaceful journey with no
traps or monsters. You exit through the door that leads into the Light
Crystal Cavern. Exhausted, you make your way through the Crystal Caves
and back out into the shining sun of the Blue Mountains. You continue
the short journey to the Dreamland Castle, everything back to normal.
You go through the courtyard of the castle up to the huge wooden door
leading inside to the throne room. Inside, a smiling King Galeideth
greets you. “Hero! I knew that you would retrieve the Elemental Stone!
Because of you, my kingdom is back to normal. Thank you ever so much!
I take it that you are weary from your quest, so rest up and another
feast in your honor will be waiting when you wake up! Thank you! Now,
may I please have the stone?” You hand him the stone and a servant
escorts you to a room, with a comfy bed. Soon, you are fast asleep…
When you awake, there are some clean clothes by the bed and a bubble
bath waiting in the bathroom. You take a bath and wash the grunge
away, from the filthy dungeon. Then you get dressed, and go to the
feast hall. In the hall there are many familiar faces, and they are
all waiting for you. When you enter the room, everyone cheers! There
is a grand feast, with delicious food, and then a toast in your honor.
Then King Galeideth makes a statement. “Everyone, your attention
please! This brave Hero has saved our world many times, and I have had
the town artist to carve a statue of stone of our Hero to place in the
courtyard of the castle, forever immortalizing our Hero!” There is
cheering, and everyone begins to move out to the courtyard. There is a
purple cloth covering a large object. King Galeideth pulls off the
cloth and there is you, a perfect likeness! Then there is dancing and
singing, and when it is time for you to leave, King Galeideth gives
you a gift. A globe made of pure crystal. He says, “Use this magical
globe to check on Dreamland whenever you want. You can also use the
globe to wish for what dreams you want to come true, and in some way,
they will! Thank you ever so much. I don’t think I can thank you
enough! Anyway, I wanted to tell you something! Every time you come
here, it is to defeat Alagian or to help us out, but you are invited
to come anytime! Remember that, and we will all miss you until you
return! Goodbye, Hero!” With that, you wish on your piece of the White
Crystal to be home, and you suddenly appear in your room.
For now your adventures in Dreamland are over, and it is time for you
to go to bed, for it is late at night. You put your globe on your
bureau, but before you lay down to sleep, you check on the world you
have grown to love. When you know that all is peaceful, you lay down
in bed, ready to dream happy dreams that you know will be happy
because of your efforts of saving peaceful Dreamland. That from now
on, nightmares will not invade your peaceful dreams because Galeideth
will make sure they are happy. As you close your eyes to sleep, you
know in your heart you have made the world, not just Dreamland, a
better place.
Dreamland was peaceful once again after the dragon Zagamite was shed
of his evil darkness and was brought back safely to Dreamland by the
Hero. The residents of Dreamland have well heard of the great Hero who
always saves their peaceful world when there is danger. Songs of the
Hero’s adventures are written by minstrels and the Hero’s adventures
are documented by scholars for everyone to read. The Hero’s effect has
earned the trust and love of all the people in Dreamland. So once
again, they turn to the Hero when Alagian is up to his evil tricks
again…
