"I can't believe you fell asleep during our mission
briefing," he replies. "We've been ordered ashore to try and
take Omaha Beach from the Nazis. We're only minutes away from landing
ashore and you're not even paying attention."
You look in your hands and observe that you are holding a rifle.
Seconds later you remember the briefing where General West explained
that your group was taking part in the largest beach attack ever
concieved of by the allied powers. Sewn unto your shoulder is a fabric
patch of the American flag to help others identify you as a soldier of
the U.S. Army. As you begin to feel the searing weight of the supplies
you are carrying on your pack you remember that overlooking the beach
are hundreds of enemy Nazi soldiers intent on keeping the Allied army
from freeing France.
"BOOM!"
You hear the sound of another large explosion and see that your boat
is getting closer to shore and closer in range to enemy gunfire.
Looking over the edge of the boat you see dozens of boats just like
yours heading away from the Allied ships. Those ships had brought you
from England where you were stationed since leaving the States where
you volunteered for the Army eleven months earlier.
You look around to the dozens of men waiting in the boat with you
preparing to charge unto the beach. Many, like yourself, have never
seen combat before and some, like Michael, are using their last
moments onboard to pray and prepare.
After a few moments later the Sergeant in charge yells, "Get
ready boys!" Michael looks at you with a worried look. Suddenlly
you feel the boat crash into the beach and the great door on the front
of the boat opens. The Sergeant yells "GO!!!" Do
you...
Michael repeats his look of disbelief.
