"Are you okay?" you hear someone yell. It is Michael who had
followed you into the water. He is ahead of you and already on shore.
This makes sense you remember because back during basic training
Michael was the battalion's best swimmer.
"Where's your pack?" he asks.
"It was drowning me," you reply. "I had to cut it loose
so that I could swim."
Michael shakes his head. "You might have needed those supplies
later on. At least you're alive. Many who didn't jump in the water got
cut down by the German guns."
BOOM!
You hear the sound of a large explosion nearby. "No time to
talk," you shout. "Let's keep moving before we DO get
hit!"
Looking forward you notice a large hill of sand which can protect both
you and Michael from enemy fire. "Follow me," you
say...
You jump straight into the water just as German machine guns open fire
on the boat. When you hit the water your body immediately begins to
sink and you struggle to try and swim towards the surface. Suddenly
you remember how heavy your pack is and decide to take it off. With
the weight of your pack gone you kick your legs and pull water with
your arms to try and swim. This time you make it to the surface and
immediately gasp for a breath of air.
