As you headed down the hall, you see several students, all in what
appear to be school uniforms with DESA embroidered on the shirt
pockets or sweaters. The girls are dressed in skirts and sweaters, and
the boys are wearing nice pants, jackets, and ties. You notice that
the colors of the uniforms are different--the boys' pants and the
girls' skirts are all white, but the tops of the uniforms--shirts and
jackets or sweaters--are red, blue, green, purple, or gold.
You wonder what the colors mean, but you also know you can't let
anyone see you, so you stay out of their lines of vision, looking for
a place like a library where you might find answers. But as you are
walking, you hear someone--a girl in blue--say,
"Did you hear about Madrona?"
"Yes--kidnapped by EOWA--can you imagine?"
"I spoke with Gratia, her best friend; she's devastated."
"I know, I know," says the girl she's talking to, also in
blue. "But no one dares go over there right now, not with the
latest crackdown."
Hmmm, you think, this is more than interesting--but do you follow your
super-sleuth instincts or continue with your original
plans?
As much as you appreciate the help you're getting, you know that now
isn't the time to lie around playing the invalid. Next to the bell
pull, you find a luxurious-looking wrapper, and when you swing your
legs over the side of your bed, you find a pair of slippers. You get
"dressed," quickly pulling your hair into a loose, but
serviceable, knot, and head down the hall, carefully keeping track of
where you are so you can get back to your room if necessary. Your head
is pounding and your stomach is empty, but, you think, that can all
wait.
